Seeds of Hope for Haiti

in support of

Reformation Hope

May the Lord triumph over tragedy! Elementary and junior high students have an opportunity to be a blessing to the boys and girls of Reformation Hope in Haiti. Each student is invited to start his or her own business, funded by a loan of $10.00 seed money from the school.

To begin, students need to develop a plan. They can provide a service, sell a product or raise money creatively. Seed money will grow as students pray, plan, work and reinvest their earnings.

We look forward to seeing the ways in which our investment will grow as God works through each student. Be fruitful and have fun!

Starting a Business – Things to Think About

Pray and ask God to give you a good idea and help you develop a plan of action.

1. What type of goods or services do you want to sell? Make a list of all the possibilities.

    • Would you like to sell food or drinks?

    • Would you like to make something that someone else could use?

    • Would you like to make something that someone else could enjoy?

    • Is there a service you could provide that someone else would like to use?

2. What do you need to start and run your business?  What resources do you need?

    • Equipment (things you only need to buy once)

    • Supplies (things that will be used up as you make your product or provide your service. Supplies need to b e replaced regularly.)

3. How will you get the resources needed for your business?

    • Seed money

    • Donations

    • Things you already have and can use to produce your goods or service

4. Who is going to buy your goods and services?  Who are your customers?

    • Neighbors

    • Friends

    • Family

    • Church members

    • Teachers

5. How are you going to let your customers know about your business?

    • Flyers

    • Word-of-mouth

    • The internet (website, blog, email, etc.)

6. Where will you sell your goods and services?

7. How much money do you want customers to pay for your goods and services? List what you will sell and the price for each item. Your price should at least cover the costs of your equipment and supplies. Price also depends on how much you think you will be able to sell.

8. How will you know if you are making money?  How much do you plan to sell?  How much will it cost you to make and sell your goods and services?  Are you bringing in more money than you are spending to run the business?
