Dear Parents: Here is some important information for you as you prepare for this trip... Where and when do I drop off and pick up my child from Heiskell? We will meet in the Heiskell lobby. Please make sure your child has changed out of his/her uniform clothes and eaten dinner before bringing him/her to the school. Parent drivers may pull cars up under the carport at this time. Upon our return school will be dismissed for first graders so please plan to pick up your child at this time. Students who are normally in the Afternoon Program may stay at school and be picked up at their regular dismissal time. Please let me know if your child will be doing this. What does my child need to bring? Please dress your child in a lightweight sweat suit or cooler comfortable clothing. We will sleep in these clothes so your child will not need pajamas. They should wear gym shoes or other comfortable shoes. Also bring: a jacket (we will be taking outside walks at night) rain gear (raincoat and umbrella) if rain is predicted since we will still go outside in the rain a healthy, non-sugary snack and/or non-caffeinated canned or box drink a sleeping bag or roll (we will sleep in a heated/air-conditioned, carpeted room in the Education Building) a pillow toothbrush and toothpaste optional: a small beanie baby or other small stuffed animal; inexpensive camera
Is there anything else I need to know? Breakfast will be provided at the zoo Friday morning. If your child needs medicine during the trip, please give the medicine and written instructions to the teacher (not your child) before we leave on the trip. In case of an emergency during the trip, campers can be reached through Security at (404) 624-5670.

DeSoto Caverns Second grade spring overnight field trip
Let's begin packing! We're excited to announce our plans for the second grade overnight trip to DeSoto Caverns in Childersburg, Alabama (about 125 miles from Atlanta). We will be departing in a chartered bus from the school's lower lot. We will be stopping to tour the Anniston Museum of Natural History's nature exhibit on the way to DeSoto Caverns.
After touring the Anniston Museum, the students will participate in the "Gold Medallion Overnight" which includes the use of the Caverns' recreational facilities, gemstone painting, bows and arrows, maze, fossil find, wiener roast, hay ride, a two hour tour of the Caverns, and breakfast.
The children have an opportunity to shop in the cavern gift shop. Please limit spending money to $10.00.
Students are to arrive at school dressed in Heiskell sweatshirt and sweat pants, wearing their white shorts and Heiskell T-shirts underneath. All items, worn or packed, are to be labeled clearly.
Please help your child pack the following items: sack lunch for picnic pillow jacket sleeping bag flashlight towel soap toothbrush toothpaste plastic tarp or raft change of underwear
When packing, please remember that electronic games, toys, and walkmen are not permitted on school trips. If your child must have medication, please give the medication and written instructions to the teacher, not to your child. This trip will be a wonderful experience for your child!
St. Simons Island - Epworth by the Sea Third grade spring overnight trip
Our overnight trip this year is to Coastal Georgia. Our lodging accommodations are at Epworth by the Sea, a Methodist conference center located on Saint Simons Island. On our trip we will visit many historical sights and enjoy the beauty of the coastal region.
Your child will need to pack the following labeled items. Please pack the first seven items in your child's school backpack for use on the bus. Camp Sunrise Fourth grade spring overnight trip
This is a wonderful camp in north Georgia run by Mr. and Mrs. Wagner, a godly Christian couple, where our students will learn about rocks and minerals, the solar system, fossils, and high frequency electricity all from a Biblical perspective. We will enjoy the planetarium and the great home cooking!

Jekyll Island Fifth grade spring overnight trip
Our field trip to the Jekyll Island 4-H Center will take place in the spring. Please label all clothing and bring a plastic bag for wet clothes on the return trip. Bring only one medium-sized suitcase. Make sure it is labeled. When you pack, remember that layers of clothing are warmer and can be removed if needed. Pack for all kinds of weather...warm, cold or wet. Only old clothes are needed. Rock Eagle and The Lost Sea, Chickamauga Battle Field and Mayfield Dairies Sixth grade fall and spring overnight trips
The sixth grade will go on two overnight trips this year. The first is an environmental field trip to Rock Eagle. This is a 4-H Environmental Education Program coordinated by the University of Georgia. Rock Eagle is located in Eatonton, Georgia.
Parents will be asked to assist in transporting the students. The students need to be at school at the normal start time on Wednesday and should be picked up from school at the regular dismissal time on Friday.
It is a real joy working with your child and I am certain that the class will enjoy this experience at Rock Eagle.

Clothing an shoes need to be old and comfortable. Make sure all belongings are labeled with name tag. Do not bring candy, gum, snacks, radios or electronic games. Please limit luggage to one suitcase, backpack, or duffle bag, plus one sleeping bag.
Our second trip is to the Lost Sea. The Lost Sea is listed in the Guinness Book for World Records as "America's Largest Underground Lake." The lake is located deep inside Craighead Caverns, in Sweetwater, Tennessee. The class will be spending the night in the cave.
The temperature in the cave is a constant 58 degrees. When you are moving you won't get cold, but while going into the cave and at the campsite a light jacket is advisable. Slacks, a warm long sleeve shirt and old shoes are ideal. You will get muddy, so be sure to bring a change of clothes.
What to bring: a good flashlight with extra batteries (necessary!) a canteen of drinking water sleeping bag a ground cloth or air mattress for sleeping

Washington-Williamsburg Tour 7th and 8th graders visit Washington and Williamsburg
Dear Travelers: Be prepared for a trip of a lifetime! Be sure to pack the following items: Full dress uniform. You will be in full dress uniform all five days of the trip. One pair of uniform shoes. You will do a lot of walking! Pajamas, robe, slippers and personal items. An all-weather coat. Gloves, scarf, and warm hat (if cold weather is predicted). A travel size umbrella (optional) An extra pair of glasses if you wear contacts or glasses. A flight bag in which to keep your camera, film, souvenirs, etc. Plenty of film and batteries. We will not stop to buy camera equipment, and film is very expensive in Washington and Williamsburg. Optional spending money for souvenirs or Cokes in the evening. A diary or notebook in which to keep a diary of your trip. You will make a scrapbook upon your return. A few healthy snacks. You may also pack a small number of snacks with sugar. Cards or other games for the airplane and train trip. (Be sure to leave behind all electronic toys, including Walkmen. You will be plugged into friends and history and will not need to be plugged into other forms of entertainment.) Upon arrival, cards and games must be put away until the bus trip from Williamsburg to Washington. Then they must disappear again and may not be unpacked until the trip home.
Please make sure that all of the above items are marked clearly with your name. If you need to take any kind of medication, your parents are to notify the chaperones, giving us written directions and all medications before departure. You will return to Hartsfield Jackson Airport. Your parents are to meet you at baggage claim upon our arrival at the airport. You are going to have a wonderful time!
Sea Camp - Newfound Harbor Marine Institute Seventh and Eighth graders are headed to the Florida Keys

What will they be eating? The meals are served at NHMI are family style. Where will the students be staying? The students stay in one of our four dormitories. The dormitories are simple rooms which house either eight or 14 students. Very little time is spent in these rooms as students are involved in programs most of the day. What happens in bad weather? If inclement weather forces the cancellation of a water based program, there are pre-planned alternative, indoor laboratory programs for both marine science and environmental science on a variety of interesting topics. NHMI uses activities not normally done in the classroom, we avoid using just slides or video since you can do that in a traditional class. How can we contact the students in case of an emergency? A message will be taken and the student will be located to return the call.
