Fine Arts

Students at The Heiskell School participate in a wide variety of fine arts programs that have been integrated into the curriculum.  Some events, such as our Great Performances, take place on campus and are open to the public.  Other projects and art exhibits are on display around Atlanta and are opportunities to present student artwork off campus.

Musical talents are developed through our music program and begins with instrumental instruction in the first grade and continues through eighth grade.
Below you will find information on:  Art Class, Great Performances, Music, Picture Parents, and information on exhibits in the public library system.

Visiting Artist Program

Students are introduced to different media through our Visiting Artist Program. Artists are invited to come and demonstrate their art making. They show completed art and discuss how it has become a part of the community. In addition, they share their philosophy of creating and how their faith affects their work. Following the artists' visit, the students' next project is done in the media demonstrated by the artist.

Last year Tewan Tso, a Chinese Brush Artist, demonstrated her excellent talents and creativity. The students then worked in the classroom and made their own beautiful brush art paintings.

Great Performances
As soon as our 2006-2007 Great Performance schedule is finalized, it will be published here.

Music
The students in the Junior High Chorus are enjoying listening to and evaluating the music of many different cultures. Our study begins at home in the United States by learning the different influences of the many different styles of music in American culture today.

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta
In 2006 and 2004, two Heiskell students had their designs selected from thousands of entries for the CHOA Christmas Card fundraiser. Previous winning Heiskell entries from their annual calendar have been beautifully framed and are on display in the main lobby at The Heiskell School.

Exhibits in Atlanta
Presently, two Heiskell students have artwork on display at the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta. Also, the Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library System has a number of branches that provide space for art exhibits. Check back for a list of upcoming exhibits.
