What we are learning:
History - Our class is studying the founding and development of the early European colonies in American history. The study focuses on the reasons for exploration and colonization by European nations in the Americas. It deals with various personalities whose pioneering spirit was felt in the New World (Columbus, Cortes, Cartier, Minuit, etc.). This study also explores the regions settled and the impact made by such nations as England, France, Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands.
Scripture Memorization -
From Ray Leatherman
Your child must face many important questions every day - questions about
the future, questions about right and wrong, personal problems. The world
seems to be definite about only one thing: we cannot be definite
about anything! So where will your child find answers for life's problems?
Technology - Junior high students earn an internet drivers license in the 6th grade which is then carried over through the 7th and 8th grades. You probably thought that drivers licenses were only required for those who drive cars, however, we issue a driver's license for the information Super Highway. This program will give each of the students the necessary skills to drive on the Super Highway and enable them to make wise choices when doing so. However, if they choose to make unwise decisions their driver's license will be revoked! This will give the student's greater freedom in using the web for their different research projects.
Music - The students
in the Junior High Mixed Ensemble are enjoying listening to and evaluating
the music of many different cultures. We began our study at home in the
United States by learning the different influences of the many different
styles of music in American culture today. If you see a Junior High student
in the near future ask them about the song entitled: “Girls’ Game.”
We are rating each piece based on our individual preferences as we listen
to each one.
Fall 2006 - 7th and 8th graders visit Washington and Williamsburg.
