Academic Life

Elementary - 5th Grade

We have been studying Ecosystems in 5th grade Science and built two ecosystems.

What we are learning:

Literature:
“Katie shivered. She closed the small barn door and stood still with both hands pressed against her heart. An old cat, who had kittens in the loft, came by on noiseless feet, a dead mouse hanging from her mouth. She stared at Katie with frightened eyes. Katie stared back, her own eyes round with fear.”
As you can see, our story on the life of Caddie Woodlawn has some suspenseful turns in the plot.

Nations:
We have selected the Nation of Israel for our missions program. Along with our prayers for Israel, we are discovering the "Cradle of Civilization" and the Garden of Eden in the land between the two rivers (Mesopotamia).

Foreign Language:
Spanish

Bible:
When all the furniture in the Tabernacle was put in place, what shape did they make?  If you said, the cross you are right!  This month we are all very excited about the model of the Tabernacle in the Wilderness that we will build.  Along with this interesting project, we will be studying the history and laws that are written in the books of Leviticus and Numbers.

History:
The kingdoms of Phoenicia, Lydia, Tyre, Sidon, Canaan, Assyria, and many more will be our focus in history as we study the ancient kingdoms and empires of the Middle East.  From there we will journey through time to the countries of the current Middle East.

2006-2007 Great Performance:

Overnight Spring Trip:
4-H Center on Jekyll Island

April 9 - 11, 2008
We are already preparing for our trip by brushing up on our knowledge of crustaceans and other interesting invertebrates. In anticipation of great adventures on our trip, we will also read the book The Swiss Family Robinson.

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old,
he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
